Only have time for a quick post this week because I am heading up to Gainesville for a Bike Florida Board of Directors meeting and a couple days of riding. I recently had the honor and pleasure of joining this board and am in awe of the passion and dedication the board members and staff have for Bike Florida. I look forward to assisting in any way I can to help continue to move this organization forward.
The mission of Bike Florida is:
To promote safe and responsible bicycling through support of the Share the Road campaign, education, public awareness, and bicycle touring. As an organization, we are dedicated to making a positive economic impact in the regions and communities that support our tours and programs. Funding comes from a combination of a portion of the Share the Road license plate fees and the money made from tours.
Agenda items for tomorrow’s meeting will be updated details on the Gullah Geechee Spring Tour (a must-do 7-day tour for all you Florida cyclists), budgets, and ideas for growth in the organization. I look forward to spending time with these like-minded individuals and pooling our knowledge and expertise to help carry out the mission.
Following the meeting will be a 7 day pre-tour ride where we will ride the actual daily routes, make sure rest stop areas are adequate, monitor any potential road or traffic situations, and scout out points of interest to share with our riders on the tour in March. The route planning has already been checked and re-checked, this is simply a final once-over to gauge the entire experience. Although my schedule only allows me to ride two days of the week long pre-ride, it promises to be a culturally rich experience with stops in St. Augustine and the SEA Community.
I look forward to sharing my adventures in a future blog post. In the meantime, check out details on the spring tour here and share this post with your bicycling friends. And follow-along on the route inspection adventure, we will be posting pictures and live video…don’t miss it!
